Infodemics – Media Literacy in A Crisis

Infodemics is a KA2 Cooperation Partnership co-funded by the Erasmus + of the European Union. Led by Formation et Sensibilisation de Luxembourg (FSL) in Luxembourg, the project also gathers partnerships from Sweden (SwIdeas), Greece (ACP – Active Citizens Partnership), and Spain (Pontydysgu).

Infodemics aims to assist youth and young people across Europe to better deal with the expanse of digital information and misinformation targeted towards them in relation to health, mental health, wellness, and wellbeing by providing skills set, a self-assessment tool and a MOOC course directed at youth, alongside an accompanying kit for youth workers and educators. The project will learn by analysing the media response to the Covid-19 crisis by collecting best practices from across Europe. Furthermore, the project will build on the existing innovative DigiComp framework and extend it to encompass media, information, and data literacy competences. The project outcomes will enable youth, young people and those who work with them to better understand, access, and interact with information from the media relating to health and wellbeing in informed and agentive ways.

DEVELOPING YOUR DIGITAL COMPETENCES IN RELATION TO HEALTH AND WELL-BEING

SELF-ASSESSMENT TOOL AND MOOC COURSE

BACKGROUND

  • Have you ever felt like you do not have enough knowledge and skills to dive into digital environments in the search for truthful health information?

  • Have you ever thought the online world may be influencing your health and well-being?

  • Would you like to learn more about how to keep yourself and others healthy and safe while navigating digital environments?

  • Are you willing to expand your knowledge about digital literacy, especially about digital literacy related to health and well-being?

  • Or maybe you are just willing to challenge yourself and get to know your level of health-related digital competence?

If you answered YES to any of the previous questions, continue reading!

WHAT IS THIS ABOUT?

You’ll get to work with two tools:

1.       The self-assessment tool is an online tool for assessing your health and well-being digital competences. You can learn more about the competences in our Comprehensive Research Report. There are 13 sets of statements in this self-assessment. Your task will be to select all of the statements that meet your level of competence. The tool then will analyse your response and will provide you with a detailed report about your level of competences in each area.

 2.       The MOOC course is designed as an online platform. It will allow you to improve your digital competences and media literacy knowledge, especially in regard to health and well-being. You will be able to discover more about how to find and evaluate health information, how to navigate safely, how to behave in digital environments to keep your and others’ health intact, and much more!

WHO IS THIS FOR?

Young people (18 to 30 years old, both included) who are interested in learning more about digital literacy, media literacy, health and well-being.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

  1. First, sign up through our website: https://infodemics.eu/login/

  2. After you sign up, you will get to access the self-assessment tool and the MOOC course via the website. This is a self-paced learning experience, so you will be able to do so whenever you want from wherever you want!

Our suggestion: first, you can complete the self-assessment tool. This will allow you to get to know your current level of digital competence in regard to health and well-being. Then, access the MOOC course in order to improve your knowledge and skills. Finally, we recommend that you take the self-assessment again. In this way, you’ll be able to acknowledge your progress and see if your digital competence improved!

WHAT IS BEHIND IT?

These digital learning tools are being developed as part of the project “Infodemics”. This project is co-funded by the Erasmus Plus program of the European Union. It aims to assist young people across Europe to better deal with the expanse of digital information and misinformation targeted towards them in relation to health, mental health, wellness and well-being.

Both the self-assessment tool and the MOOC course have been inspired by the DigComp 2.2 Framework of the European Commission.
